April 2021
During the April school holidays Boomerang have hosted a very successful
Holiday Club for Kid’s with spaces being fully allocated each day. The kid’s
attending are all known to us through working and supporting the families
over the previous year and were aged between 6 years and 11 years.
Standing outside waiting for them all to arrive each morning we would
see and hear them come running around the corner full of joy and chatter
long before their parents would make an appearance. Each session started
with a breakfast consisting of cereal, toast and jam before progressing on to
a different activity each day and then ending with a sandwich lunch
supplied by Dundee Bairns. Activities included arts and crafts, with
some very talented youngsters creating amazing and extraordinary
artwork for being so young, designing and printing T Shirts and a film club.
But the activity that was best received (so much that we repeated it both
weeks) was the old-fashioned sports day where they participated in the
Egg and Spoon race. Sack Race the Three-Legged Race amongst others.
The rough, tumble and laughter that ensued was a reminder that kid’s do
not have to have the latest in computer games etc to have a good time.
Thankfully there were no broken bones or serious injuries. Karen, our
cleaner, was a star and proficiently led the sessions supported by volunteers Abbi and Madison. Going home time came too soon and tantrums and tears were the order of the day. One mum reported that her son had “really came out of his shell” after the first week and getting him up and dressed in the morning was the easiest it has ever been. Another reported that from the time they left until bed time all they spoke about was what they’d done at the club. All mums stated that the kid’s loved it and could they book up for the next one. Thanks go to Dundee Bairns for supplying the grant for the activities and the lunches, Don Michele for the Pizzas and Paul Duncan for the chocolate eggs.
